Efficient Bulb Test
Consumer NZ wanted to see how the energy-saver bulbs compared with standard bulbs for light output and how long they lasted after being switched on and off continually. Consumer tested 19 models to find the energy saver light bulbs that shine the brightest and last the longest.
Downlight Test
Downlights that are recessed into the ceiling can compromise the home’s insulation and add significant costs to your power bill. Consumer NZ tested a range of different downlight fittings and bulbs in a controlled environment to find out how the heat loss varied with different fittings and bulbs.
Home Lighting Choices
Uplights, downlights, pendants, fancy chandeliers? There's now an energy-efficient bulb to replace all of them. Recent research has shown that the average home has 30 light fittings but only 6 are fitted with energy-efficient bulbs. With Consumer NZ testing of energy-efficient bulbs proving their light output and longevity, there's good reason to fit out the whole house.
The RightLight Challenge
The RightLight team continued to hear of concerns from Kiwis that 
energy efficient light bulbs are ugly and do not provide good light.So we took the testing out of the lab and into the shopping mall to see if New Zealanders really can tell the difference between the light from an energy efficient bulb and the traditional incandescent bulb that most of us have grown up with.
