Downlight

Downlights are generally round or square and recessed into the ceiling, but can also be surface-mounted. Some types of downlight include an open reflector and a shielding device. Generally, the larger the opening, the more efficient the downlight will be. Downlights that contain built in reflective surfaces designed to direct light in a precise direction, can cause the ceiling and upper walls to appear dark, so you must use them appropriately.

Many great downlight choices

There's currently also a lot of hype about the design possibilities of LED technology that lasts upwards of 40 years within homes. It’s however likely to be a few years yet before LEDs become a mainstream alternative due to pricing and difficulties in producing the same colour temperature we’re used to for home lighting.
